A busy life on the road can get lonely even for those already in committed marriages and relationships. However, starting new relationships can be even more difficult when you’re always en route. So for many drivers, online dating may just be what they need to steer them right down Lover’s Lane.
Online dating is nothing new. Okay, it may have been considered taboo years ago, but now it’s generally accepted. After all, when the forerunner dating site, Match.com launched in 1995, a mere 14% of Americans were internet users. Now, just about everyone is logged on 24/7. And oh how our mindset has changed— these days about 60% of Americans agree that “online dating is a good way to meet someone.” Additionally, 1 in 5 adults (age 25-35) has admitted having used either an online dating site or app.
Advantages of Online Dating for Truckers
When you are meeting new people online, you can get to know them without physically being around them unless you are able or choose to. When singles meet through the internet or through mobile apps, they get to know one another through messages that lead to texts that could lead to phone calls or video chats (which could inevitably lead to possible wedding bells in the future, right?!). In the world of a truck driver, there’s not a whole lot of time to waste trying to figure out if the attractive woman or charming man you start a conversation with in person is single, interested, or shares common interests with you before you’ve got to move on to your next stop. Online dating works much more effectively to almost “shop” for the people that might just become your next someone special.
Online dating can take you out of your comfort zone (in a good way, of course), you’ll learn a TRUCKLOAD about yourself and others, and you’ll find that practice truly does make perfect when it comes to dating.
Dating Sites Geared JUST for Truck Drivers
Using generic websites like Plenty of Fish, Match.com, etc. can be just fine for most, yes. But when it comes to a professional truck driver and the lifestyle they live, is that going to help them find someone that will sympathize with those circumstances? That’s when the truck driver specific dating sites come into play. One of these sites, Trucker Passions, a specific site off of the larger Passion’s Network, has been making romantic matches for truck drivers since 2004. Passion’s Network has boasted over 3.5 million member profiles in the decade since they’ve begun.

Passion’s Network has over 250+ category-specific dating sites, including many for professions such as in the medical, legal, and teaching fields. However, according to Michael Carter, President of Passions Network Inc., “Truckers Passions took off much more quickly [than their other career-specific dating sites].” The site is 100% free and offers all the same features you could expect from any of the more broad dating services such as photo personals, emails (send & receive), forums, blogs, text chat, audio chat, streaming webcam chat, friends lists, favorite websites, favorite videos, instant messaging, and more.
Carter adds, “…the underlying concept within Passions Network is that ‘It should be easier to break the ice if you share something in common.’ Sending that first email or Instant Message can be a bit scary or awkward, but if both parties have a connection of some sort, hopefully, that makes it easier.”
Is Online Dating right for You?
Although there are a lot of great perks for using online dating sites, social media, and apps to meet new people; it may not work for everyone. There’s still a lot to consider before taking the plunge into online courtship. Like, for one, flexibility is key. Are you realistic in what you’re looking for in a partner? Or, are you single because you have a crazy (and unobtainable) checklist? It’s important to consider everything that you’re seeking in someone before you even create a profile.
Another question is, are you internet-savvy? You don’t have to be a computer genius by any means, but a novice web user probably should avoid online dating. There’s a lot of dangers out there if you’re not careful about how you do it. Unfortunately, there are sick people in the world that will make fake accounts and the threat of being scammed or “catfished” is very real. You don’t want to give out personal information until you know a person is legitimate.
Lastly, you should only use online dating if you, yourself, are being truthful. Take a look into the mirror and evaluate what you genuinely can bring to the table in a relationship. Once you evaluate just what kind of date you are, you can more easily decide how to go about your online dating experience.
Happy dating, y’all.
