Coffee Alternatives for Truckers

It’s often said that caffeine is a trucker’s best friend, and coffee becomes the third friend in the trio. Caffeine has many benefits for truckers, especially for night driving and those long hauls that can get boring. But, coffee isn’t always the best option for a boost of energy depending on the individual. Some people don’t even like coffee! Crazy, right? Luckily, there are many different coffee alternatives for truckers that will give you a lasting energy boost.

A cup of coffee isn’t too bad for you, but when you start getting to the “few cups a day” level, you might want to rethink it. Coffee gives an almost instant jolt of energy, which can lead you to feel sluggish as it wears off. When this happens, you probably pull over and grab another cup. Caffeine is highly addictive, so coffee alternatives for truckers could help in the long run.

Coffee Alternatives for Truckers

You might not get the instant boost of coffee, but these alternatives help provide a sustained and balanced energy level so you don’t feel a drag later in the day.

Drink Alternatives

Tea

Tea is cheap, delicious, and good for your health. It might not have as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, but it’s still a great alternative. Different teas also have different caffeine contents. Having more than one cup of tea is much healthier than having a few cups of coffee. With such a wide variety of teas, you’re bound to find at least one that you like. There’s green, black, herbal, etc. Tea also has many antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, so it’s actually good for you.

Smoothies

So, you might not have access to a blender while you’re on the road. But, instead of stopping for a cup of coffee, stop for a smoothie. Smoothies are great alternatives for truckers and you can control what you want in them. They’re also a great way to incorporate energy boosting foods such as fruit, kale, spinach, nuts, and seeds.

Chai

Chai is technically a type of tea, but I decided to separate it from the bunch. Chai is a more creamy and rich tea that resembles coffee. Most chai is made with rich black tea, which is where the caffeine is found. A variety of spices also makes the tea an indulgent treat, like cinnamon, ginger, and many others. You might be cutting the caffeine a bit, but the creaminess and flavor can trick your mind into thinking it’s coffee.

Lemon Water

We all know that water is the most important liquid to consume, and it can act as its own energy source. But sometimes, it can get super boring and you’ll want some flavor. By infusing your water with lemon juice and zest, you’re doing your whole body a favor. Lemon water is one of the greatest coffee alternatives for truckers since it helps almost every system of the body. Lemons are natural energizers, and lemon water hydrates the body so it feels revitalized and refreshed.

Energy Boosting Foods

In addition to liquid coffee alternatives for truckers, there are also energy-boosting foods that you can keep handy for snacks.

  • Nuts – cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, and even peanut butter are great sources of protein and magnesium. Magnesium helps your body convert food into energy.
  • Seeds – chia seeds, flax seeds, etc. are great examples of energy boosting foods. Rich in protein, fiber, potassium and other healthy components, seeds are a great source of energy. You can mix them into yogurt, smoothies, salads, cereal, and many other foods.
  • Dark Chocolate – yes, chocolate can actually help your energy levels. Dark chocolate is also known to have mood-boosting powers that can help you throughout your day.

Remember, anything consumed in excess isn’t healthy. Don’t go crazy eating dark chocolate or drinking smoothies all-day-every-day. Switching it up between some coffee alternatives for truckers can be very beneficial for your energy levels and overall health. Also, stay away from energy drinks – they’re an alternative to coffee, but a terrible one.
