GDS provides superior capacity, technology and service, while still maintaining long-term personal relationships with our owner operators, drivers, office staff and vendors.
Our History: The Dream of One Man GDS Founder Jack Delaney began his transportation career in 1961 at Roadway Express. Working as a dispatcher in Roadway’s Kearney, New Jersey, terminal, he advanced through the ranks to executive vice president. As such, Jack helped to build the nation’s leading LTL company. In 1990, Jack was ready for a new challenge. With just seven owner operators and 35 trailers, he founded GDS Express to handle garment-on-hangers (GOH) shipments for Montgomery Ward®. Two years later, Jack’s son, J.P. Delaney, joined the effort. Together they enforced core values like respect and communication, as well as an open-door policy, to grow GDS as a successful business and supportive, family-friendly employer. In 2010, Jack retired, answering a different kind of call of the open road – riding horses. J.P. took over as GDS president and continues to lead the company through exciting expansions. Today, with the help of our valued people, GDS has more than 160 drivers and offers dedicated lanes across the country. And, J.P. is still looking ahead. In 2014, he and CEO Craig Stacy formed GDS Express Group, a focused division that drives growth in all markets. Through its efforts, GDS now offers a more diverse range of services including dry van, logistics and bulk service.
