Jobs in Iowa driving reefer trucks, commonly known as refrigerator trucks; require drivers to transport perishable food items. However, as the population increases the demand for these careers prosper as well. Reefer trucks generally require further distances to travel than other types of commercial vehicles because of the nature of the products they ship. Also, there is a high level of responsibility that comes with the territory in a job driving reefer trucks so typically salaries are larger than some other types of trucking jobs, too. There were roughly 5.5 million of these types of trucks on the road reportedly in 2012, but the number keeps growing. Reefer trucks use a cooling system of either ice chilling, dry-ice (carbon dioxide), or are run by a refrigerator system.
