Jobs driving reefer trucks in Hawaii transporting perishable food items, give opportunities making a higher salary than drivers in some other commercial driving jobs. However, this is because driving reefer trucks require longer distances of travel typically and a greater general sense of responsibility. The job outlook for refrigerator truck driving is positive though because as the population continues to grow the demand for food transport increases accordingly. There were about 5.5 million of these trucks out there in 2012. Reefer vehicles are cooled by means of ice chilling, dry-ice (carbon dioxide as the cooling agent), or with the help of a refrigerated system.
