Bitcoins are unique lines of computer code unable to be duplicated and therefore used for secure transactions via blockchain networks. These blockchains are comprised of a database distributed across a peer-to-peer network without a central authority. This means that network participants must agree on the validity of transactions to record the transfer of currency. One is a cryptocurrency and the other is a ledger system used to transfer that cryptocurrency.
