Hollywood has a pretty skewed portrayal of trucking. However, as close or far from reality truck-drivers appear on the big-screen, it’s always a delight to see our profession in the media. After all, truckers are everywhere! So grab some popcorn and fire up the Netflix…<\/p>\n

BLACK DOG (1998)<\/span><\/h3>\n

Patrick Swayze (RIP) plays an ex-con who takes a truck driving gig across country. Little does he know, his load is hauling more than he bargained for…including illegal weapons. Swayze’s character must go on the ride of his life in order to save his family. Fun fact: 90’s musician, Meatloaf, also has a role in the film.<\/p>\n

Memorable Trucker Line<\/strong>: \u201cI\u2019m going to deliver that truck and NOTHING is going to get in my way.\u201d<\/p>\n

SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT (1977)<\/span><\/h3>\n

Possibly the most quintessential-trucker movie of the 1970’s, Smokey and the Bandit was basically about a “bandit” that is hired to haul a truckload of beers over county lines. Although, things would go a lot easier if it wasn’t for the pesky sheriff. The hot pursuit thrill-ride stars\u00a0Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and of course Burt’s iconic mustache.<\/p>\n

Memorable Trucker Line:<\/strong> \u201cFor the good old American lifestyle: For the money, for the glory, and for the fun… mostly for the money.\u201d<\/p>\n

OVER THE TOP (1987)<\/span><\/h3>\n

Sylvester Stallone plays an arm-wrestling trucker who is struggling following the death of his wife in this 1980’s trucking classic. In the film, Stallone’s character hopes to win a championship arm-wrestle competition where the prize is a semi. His hope is to win big so he can start his very own trucking company.<\/p>\n

Memorable Trucker Line:<\/strong> \u201cThe world meets nobody halfway. When you want something, you gotta take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (1986)<\/span><\/h3>\n

Stephen King just HAD to make a horror film about trucking. In Maximum Overdrive, big rigs start coming to life\u00a0and become homicidal towards their drivers after a comet passes by Earth and brings the dust to life. (And I thought my<\/em> workday was rough.)<\/p>\n

Memorable Trucker Line:<\/strong> \u201cYou leave here without punching out… and you ain’t never gonna have to punch out again, Bubba.\u201d<\/p>\n

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986)<\/span><\/h3>\n

Kurt Russell is probably the ideal guy to play a trucker. He’s charming and a man’s man…definitely someone you’d want to grab a cold one with. But I digress. John Carpenter directs this tale of a trucker who winds up in a centuries-old battle with a mystic battle. All I can say without giving up too much is don’t mess with the Porkchop Express!<\/p>\n

Memorable Trucker Line:<\/strong> \u201cJust remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.”<\/p>\n

BIG RIG (2007)<\/span><\/h3>\n

Big Rig is the most recent trucking movie on the list. Unlike the others, it is a documentary. The film follows All-American long-haul drivers and gives the average-Joe an inside look of the on-the-road lifestyle. #relatable!<\/p>\n
