For the past 26 years, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has hosted a Mother’s Day Truck Convoy in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania – which happens to be the hometown of All Truck Jobs! Participation in every convoy raises money to grant wishes, and the foundation has raised millions of dollars so far!

The Mother’s Day Truck Convoy is a carnival-like event, hosted at the start of the convoy, with an average attendance of about 5,000 people! The event is complete with tons of delicious, local food, family-fun games, clowns, entertainers and many more local representatives to create a phenomenal environment! The Convoy itself continues on for 26 miles through out scenic Lancaster County.

How the Mother’s Day Truck Convoy Began

This year, All Truck Jobs met up with the Philadelphia, Northern Delaware and Susquehanna Valley Regional Director of Make-A-Wish, Ben Lee, who explained the heart-warming history behind the event. The Convoy began with a young man’s simple wish to ride in an 18-wheeler and talk to his sister via CB radio (insert happy tears here!). In an amazing (and shocking) twist, over 40 trucks and drivers showed up to grant the wish, and this is how the Mother’s Day Truck Convoy was conceived.

Today, over 120 former, Make-A-Wish children and their families attend the Convoy, and most of the money raised goes to granting the wishes of other children!

The World’s Longest Truck Convoy – Let’s Break a Record!

Breaking records isn’t a new feat for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Lee explained that in 2003 and 2004, the Mother’s Day Truck Convoy had set the Guinness Book of World Record for “The World’s Longest Truck Convoy” with 391 trucks, only to be surpassed by a trucking company in the Netherlands later that year.

Lee had one simple request, and that was for All Truck Jobs to help rally drivers to break the Netherland’s record of 416 trucks for “The World’s Longest Truck Convoy”, and that’s where you come in! Over the years, the truck convoy continued to grow, and almost 400 drivers got involved last year. This year, Make A Wish is hoping to hit their goal of 500 truck drivers!
